The Planning Commission is made up of five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors to four year terms.   The Planning Commission elects its own chair and vice chair and creates and fills such other offices as it may determine. Officers serve annual terms and may succeed themselves. Full records of all meetings are kept and presented to the Board of Supervisors on a monthly basis.
 
The Planning Commission, at the request of the Board of Supervisors, has the power and shall be required to:
 
  1. Prepare the comprehensive plan for the development of the municipality as set forth in this act,and present it for the consideration of the Board of Supervisors. 
  2. Maintain and keep on file records of its action. All records and files of the Planning Commissionshall be in the possession of the governing body.
  3. The Planning Commission, at the request of the Board of Supervisors may:
  4. Make recommendations to the governing body concerning the adoption or amendment of anofficial map.
  5. Prepare and present to the governing body of the municipality a zoning ordinance, and makerecommendations to the governing body on proposed amendments to it as set forth in this act.
  6. Prepare, recommend and administer subdivision and land development and planned residentialdevelopment regulations, as set forth in this act.
  7. Prepare and present to the governing body of the municipality a building code and a housingcode and make recommendations concerning proposed amendments thereto.
  8. Do such other acts or make such studies as may be necessary to fulfill the duties and obligationsimposed by this act.
  9. Prepare and present to the governing body an environmental study.
  10. Submit to the governing body recommended capital improvements program.
  11. Promote public interest in, and understanding of, the comprehensive plan and planning.
  12. Make recommendations to governmental, civic and private agencies and individuals as to theeffectiveness of the proposals of such agencies and individuals.
  13. Hold public hearings and meetings.
  14. Present testimony before any board.
  15. In the performance of its functions, enter upon any land to make examinations and surveys withthe consent of the owner.
  16. Prepare and present to the governing body a study regarding the feasibility and practicability of using renewable energy sources in specific areas within the municipality.
  17. Review the zoning ordinance, subdivision and land development ordinance, official map,provisions for planned residential development, and such other ordinances and regulations governing the development of land no less frequently than it reviews the comprehensive plan.
